Transfer Student Advisement Guide

Degree Requirements for B.A., B.S., B.F.A.

Total Credits Required for Graduation: 120 Credits (minimum)

Credits break down as follows:

  • Major area of study: 34-60+ Credits
    • Each major requires a different number of credits.  Please refer to the college catalogue for information pertaining to a specific major.
  • General Education Curriculum: 42 Credits
    • Consists of:
      • Foundation Credits
      • Disciplinary Studies
      • Advanced Interdisciplinary Perspectives
  • Elective Credits: 12-44
    • The number of electives will vary according to a student's major.

Marymount Manhattan College is on a semester calendar. Courses are usually 3 credits each.

Full time status: 12 credits

Part time status: less than 12 credits

Main semesters: Fall and Spring

Mini semesters: January, Summer I, and Summer II


Transfer Credit Guidelines:

  • Minimum transferrable grade: C-
  • Minimum transferrable grade to meet Foundation credit requirements: B
  • (Math and Writing [English Composition])
  • Maximum transferrable credits:
    • Two year school: 60 Credits
    • Four year school: 90 Credits
  • Pass/Satisfactory grades typically do not transfer.
  • Pre-College level courses do not transfer.
  • International transcripts are reviewed by the World Education Services
  • Students who are proficient in another language can take the NYU or CLEP Language Proficiency Examinations for potential transfer credit.

  • (Grade of "B" or better needed in order for courses to transfer to MMC)
WRIT 101 Writing Seminar I 3 credits
WRIT 102 Writing Seminar II 3 credits
MATH 113 Quantitative Reasoning 3 credits

MATH 129 Intermediate Algebra 3 credits
  • Disciplinary Studies (15 credits)
  • (Grade of "C-" or better needed in order for courses to transfer to MMC)
  • All matriculated students must complete one course in each of the five categories in the disciplinary studies. Courses from the students' major will not satisfy disciplinary studies credits, but courses from the students' minor can be applied.

DS1  Studies in Creative Expression 3 credits
DS2  Studies in Literature and Language 3 credits
DS3  Studies in Natural Science and Mathematics 3 credits
DS4  Studies in Psychology, Philosophy, and Religious Studies 3 credits
DS5  Studies in Social Science, Business, and History 3 credits
  • Advanced Interdisciplinary Perspectives (18 credits)
  • (Grade of "C-" or better needed in order for courses to transfer to MMC)
  • All matriculated students must complete six courses in the advanced interdisciplinary perspectives courses. Students must complete one course in four sections, and two in one section. Courses from the students' major will not satisfy advanced interdisciplinary perspectives credits, but courses from the students' minor can be applied.
