MMC and Me

Why did you choose to come to Marymount Manhattan?

It is quite the story! I visited NY for the first time in 2005 with my parents for only two days. I immediately fell in love with its urban environment, noisy atmosphere, and vivid ambiance. Then, in 2008, I went to Tennessee as a foreign exchange student and studied there my junior and senior year of high school. Since I graduated from an American high school, I decided that it would be a good idea to continue my education in the United States. One girl from school in Tennessee told me that she visited Marymount and that it was a lovely, small school in the middle of Manhattan. I got accepted in January, and in August I flew to NY and moved into the dorms. That was the first time I saw the school, the residence halls, and my roommates and Marymount hasn't let me down yet. I feel I am part of a family. Marymount's tight-knit community makes me feel comfortable, so New York does not seem as big as it is. If you are looking for a place where the professors are your friends and your friends are your classmates, choose Marymount. You will get that and much more.

What clubs, organizations or activities do you participate in at MMC?

I am a Resident Advisor at the 55th Street Residence Hall, Treasurer for the Campus Activities Board, and a member of the Marymount Business Association and the Global Citizens' Society. I am also part of the College Honors Program, the Academic Integrity Board, and I actively participate in Honors Day activities each year.

What has been your favorite class taken at the college? Why?

I have taken so many great classes at MMC! It is really hard to pick, but it would have to be the Honors class Plagues and Humankind with Dr. Judith Hanks. First, the topic itself was fascinating. It was mind-blowing to hear more about the major plagues that have haunted society for eternity, such as Tuberculosis, Malaria, and HIV/AIDS. Second, my professor was a fabulous and brilliant individual. The passion with which she spoke about the topics was very attention-grabbing and her knowledge was contagious. I can truly say I have learned a tremendous amount from that class.

Do you have a favorite memory from your time here so far?

My favorite memory was walking into my room at the 55th Street Residence Hall my freshman year, seeing the gorgeous view in front of me, and thinking: This is where I live now! This is what I will wake up to every day! It felt amazing!
