Funding to complete a book manuscript The Body of the People: Choreographies of Propaganda and Resistance in East Germany. This book “broadens the scope of scholarship in German Dance and Performance Studies by examining dance as a tool of indoctrination and simultaneously of resistance to state powers.”

Funding for travel and lodging in Lisbon, Portugal for research for a book on the genesis and evolution of Fado music in relation to Portugese cinema and the fascist dictatorship of Salazar, Estado Novo. This award will allow Dr. Colvin to access several key archives in order to conduct research on the role of Fado music in Portugese cinema from 1931 to 1974.

Funding to complete coursework in photography at The International for Photography. Prof. Falcaro has mounted several exhibitions in traditional photographic mediums. Her study of digital photography will benefit our new concentration in Photography as well as Professor Falcaro's own professional creative work.

Funding to develop two interdisciplinary COR 300 courses in world literature. These course offerings will provide a curricular shift from an emphasis on Anglo-American traditions to a more international and global perspective. The proposed courses will “draw upon literature, film, historical accounts, and journalism to introduce students to the cultural and political forces shaping post-independence India and Africa, as well as the articulation of those forces in works of imaginative fiction.”

Funding to develop a three-dimensional, articulated and animated model of human respiration. Having tested a prototype model, developed with funds from San Diego State University, Prof. Morrison is now ready to advance the model to better demonstrate the role of organs and other viscera in the breathing process and to fabricate a workable lung that demonstrates how the lungs respond to the movement of the torso and to changes in air pressure.

Funding to conduct research in Austria to support his book, Brief Mortal Conflicts: Schubert's Theatre for Song which will be published by Amadeus Press. To complete a book manuscript comprised of personal essays ed on place, ethnicity, and South Asian diasporic identity. In addition, Prof. Shah will develop a number of new courses such as a workshop in writing creative nonfiction and a course in ethnic literature.

The Starr Foundation made a grant of $200,000 to the C.V. Starr Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund. The Fund, which supports students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need, is the College?s largest scholarship fund.

The Ford Foundation awarded Marymount Manhattan a grant of $130,000 to support the project entitled ?Integrating Macroeconomic Strategies and Economic and Social Rights: A Case Study of Mexico and the United States?. Dr. Radhika Balakrishnan.

The Betty and Norman F. Levy Foundation made a grant of $50,000 for the Bedford Hills College Program endowment. This grant was made as a challenge and awarded after the College raised $50,000 for the Bedford Hills College program endowment. Dr. Cindy Mercer and Aileen Baumgartner.

The Glickenhaus Foundation awarded MMC a grant of $35,000 to support scholarships for students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.

The Rose M. Badgeley Residuary Charitable Trust renewed its support for the Rose M. Badgeley Scholars Program at Marymount Manhattan with a grant of $15,000. This program supports student-faculty research projects in the Division of the Sciences. Through these projects, MMC students have the opportunity to participate in laboratory-based research activities.

United States Department of Education
A Congressionally-directed federal appropriations grant of $335,043 will support a minority teacher preparation initiative, including recruitment of students to the Teacher Education Program at the College, to be accomplished through outreach, a partnership with a local high school, and financial aid. This is thanks to the support of Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY).
The New York State Department of Correctional Services
Two awards of $7,200 each, through the Youth Offender Grant, will support tuition payments for a semester of coursework for five students in the Bedford Hills College Program. Dr. Cindy Mercer and Aileen Baumgartner.
New York State Department of Education
A grant of $6,312 supported textbook expenses at the Bedford Hills College Program with the support of New York State Senator Thomas Duane (D-NY).
