Feb. 9-March 10: Hewitt Gallery Displays “Variation & Revision"

February 9, 2009
Dates: February 9-March 10
Location: Hewitt Gallery of Art
Contact: Hewitt Gallery at (212) 517-0692

“Variation & Revision: Low Tech/New Tech in Contemporary Video” examines the use of anime and other new media practices by today’s video artists. The artists experiment with digital cameras, camera phones, filters, anime techniques and various methods in pushing boundaries while maintaining a persuasive level of creativity. They use these techniques to convey how video has evolved as a viable media since its first introduction by Nam June Paik in 1963. Video, now in high demand as works of art from animation to various genres, has a secure role in today’s contemporary art scene. A reception will be held in the Hewitt Gallery from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 12.
