President's Medal Gala Honoree, Rabbi Philip Hiat

(New York, NY) On Monday, April 27, 2009, Marymount Manhattan College will honor Rabbi Philip Hiat at the 2009 President’s Medal Gala. Guests will enjoy an evening of dining, dancing and live entertainment at The Boathouse in Central Park.

The Gala is the College’s most important fundraising event. Proceeds will provide a high quality liberal arts education as an affordable option for our diverse body of students. Gala participation supports the increase of scholarship opportunities, an initiative of This is the Day, the campaign for Marymount Manhattan.

This year’s Gala contributions will be enhanced with the help of a generous donor. “Thanks to an anonymous donor, all contributions to the 2009 President’s Medal Gala will be matched,” said Betty Heinig, Vice President for Institutional Advancement. “Seating is limited; however, everyone can take advantage of this opportunity and make a contribution that will be matched. We ask everyone to consider generous participation.”

Marymount Manhattan College is also delighted to announce Jim and Marilyn Simons as Gala Chairs for this year’s event. The College is proud to present the 2009 President’s Medal to Rabbi Philip Hiat, religious advisor, friend to MMC and Scholar in Residence at Central Synagogue in New York City. He is also the editor of “A Visual Testimony: Judaica from the Vatican Library.” Over the years, Rabbi Hiat has strengthened the College’s multi-faith campus ministry program through his wisdom and compassion. He has worked with CBS Television for Religious Broadcasting as Executive Consultant and the Synagogue Council of America as Executive Vice President.
