Marymount Manhattan College will co-sponsor the 3rd Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Biological Sciences at William Paterson University of New Jersey (WPUNJ) for the second consecutive year on April 4, 2009. The symposium fosters a community of student scholars in biology, chemistry, science and health and provides a forum for undergraduate students enrolled in colleges and universities in the Mid-Atlantic area to present research projects.

Associate Professor of Biology Ann Aguanno is the director of the Northeast Region of The Undergraduate Affiliate Network (UAN) of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

“It’s a great event for college students to participate and from their peers,” Aguanno said.

The format of the meeting will include morning and afternoon poster sessions. Posters will be judged by a panel of attending mentors, and awards will be presented to the best undergraduate poster presenters in the following five categories: Biochemistry, Physiology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Genetics, Ecology & Evolution, Nano Chemistry, General Chemistry and Materials Chemistry. In addition, three names will be drawn from the first place awards to receive an additional gift at the conclusion of the awards ceremony. A science writer from The New York Times will deliver the keynote address. This event is open to the public.

In addition to MMC, co-sponsors include ISP Corp, The UAN of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the UAN Chapter of William Paterson University.
