March 24-April 2: Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Confronts Issue on Local and Global Levels

During Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, MMC will host events in an effort to elicit a response to the hunger and homelessness happening at local and global levels. Personal stories of homelessness will be shared, and a movie screening of Dark Days, a documentary on the homeless communities living in the NYC subway systems, will be featured. See all the events listed below. The week is sponsored by Community Service Floor, MMC Outreach, Residence Hall Council (RHC), Omicron Delta Kappa, Campus Ministries and Community Outreach.
Faces of Homelessness Date: Tuesday, March 24 Time: 1-2:30 p.m. Location: Regina Peruggi Room Come learn about homelessness from a local to a global level. This panel will feature formerly homeless women sharing their personal experiences as well as speakers from Bread from the World and Women in Need.
Multifaith Meal Date: Thursday, March 26 Time: 5-7:30 p.m. Location: Regina Peruggi Room Join Campus Ministries and Rabbi Hiat for an interactive, multi-faith exploration of a Sedar and The Last Supper. “No one eats until everyone comes to the table.”
Hunger Banquet Date: Tuesday, March 31 Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Location: Regina Peruggi Room Hungry? Join us for an eye-opening, hands-on simulation of the global disparity in food security.
Movie Screening of Dark Days Date: Wednesday, April 1 Time: 9-11 p.m. Location: 55th Street Residence, 2nd Floor Lounge All students are welcome to this movie screening of “Dark Days.” This documentary tells the stories of homeless communities living in the NYC subway systems. Popcorn will be provided!
Game Night at Covenant House Date: Thursday, April 2 Time: 5:15-8 p.m. Location: Meet at 55th Street Residence Want to volunteer? On an average night, Covenant House provides shelter for 100 homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth. Come join us for a fun game night with kids. Sign up at any HHAW event or email volunteer@mmm.edu.
