| | (New York, NY) President Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D., hosted a celebration on May 7, 2009, to mark the tenth anniversary of Marymount Manhattan Colleges (MMC) association with the Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
The occasion offered the opportunity for current and former MMC Watson Fellows to visit with President Shaver, and to reconnect with each other and the College, said Marguerita Grecco, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
As one of the original NYC colleges invited to nominate candidates for this exceptional program, MMC has established a respectable roster of Watson Fellows. The Watson Fellows who attended the reunion were Marilyn Ordonez 05 (Watson Fellow 04), Melissa Rodriguez-Gonzalez 03 (Watson Fellow 03), Isabel Sinistore 04 (Watson Fellow 03), Kasia Reterska 02 (Watson Fellow 02), Olivia Warren 11 (Watson Fellow 10), Jeff Lewis 10 (Watson Fellow 10), Jessica Murray 05 (Watson Fellow 04), Julianne Willis 11 (Watson Fellow 11), and Will Bradford 06 (Watson Fellow 05).
The Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship provides internships, mentoring and enriched educational opportunities to promising New York City undergraduates with the goal of increasing their life choices and developing their capacity to make a difference in their own and others lives. The centerpiece of the fellowship is on-the-job learning that will provide opportunities for leadership and personal growth, and it will also provide experience and insight on choices for a future vocation.
Graduates of the Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship have gone on to enroll in graduate school, win national fellowships, earn jobs in their chosen fields, and volunteer for service opportunities, such as Teach for America and the Peace Corps. The program encourages fellows to engage in internships in nonprofit organizations, government service and private enterprise.
Marymount Manhattan College is an urban, independent, liberal arts college. The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse population by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth and by providing opportunities for career development.
