MMC Alumna Geraldine A. Ferraro '56 answers questions during a discussion led by Laurence Berg, Board Member with the Network for Peace Through Dialogue.

(New York, NY) Marymount Manhattan alumna Geraldine A. Ferraro ’56 was the featured speaker at the “Dialogue In/As Action” Conference presented June 12 and 13 at the College. The Network for Peace Through Dialogue (NPTD) in collaboration with MMC, presented the two-day conference that focused on the methods, processes, and actions of dialogue in the business, political and social arenas.

On June 12, Geraldine A. Ferraro ’56 participated in an on-stage interview conducted by NPTD Board Member Laurence Berg. The interview, which took place in the Theresa Lang Theatre, provided audience members with an opportunity to learn about the art of dialogue through Ferraro’s personal experience in politics and everyday life. Ferraro, an attorney, Democratic politician and a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, spoke candidly about her experience visiting foreign countries.

Sr. Virginia Dorgan, Conference Director, welcomes the audience to the "Dialogue In/As Action" Conference.

“Dialogue was key, and still is, to understanding political matters and reaching an agreement where both parties are happy,” she said in the interview. Ferraro served as a U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights from 1993 to 1996.

Following the interview, MMC Theatre Arts students presented an “Interactive Forum Theatre Performance,” that invited audience members to perform with the students on stage to identify a solution to the conflict. The exercise and discussion was led by Dana Edell, Adjunct Professor of Theatre Arts.

MMC Alumna Elaine Reiman-Fenton '59 joins one of MMC's Theatre Arts students, James Cusati-Moyer '13, on stage.

Throughout the two-day conference, MMC alumni, community members, and those who study the art of dialogue attended sessions that focused on dialogue in schools, the workplace and everyday life.
