Marymount Manhattan Invites Parents to Orientation and Reception
 |
CONTACTS: Carol L. Jackson, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, MMC, (212) 774-0756, cjackson@mmm.edu (New York, NY) – Fall semester classes for Marymount Manhattan students begin on September 8, 2009. However, students are not the only ones becoming familiar with the College and the people who help students earn their undergraduate degrees.
Each semester, new MMC students participate in the College’s annual orientation to familiarize themselves with school policies and day-to-day activities. This year, new MMC Parents have an opportunity to learn about the College, meet President Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D., and learn the ins and outs of being a helpful MMC parent from members of the College community.
The College will host the Parents Orientation and Reception in The Great Hall on Friday, August 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 29, from 5-6:30 p.m. In addition to meeting President Shaver, parents will have the opportunity to meet other members of the College’s administration and faculty including David Podell, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, Betty Heinig, B.A., Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Carol Jackson, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.
“We want the parents to get a sense of the academic and social journey their students will begin here at the College,” Jackson said. “We expect they will get some advice about the best ways to support their sons and daughters as they start their freshman year. During the reception, parents will be able to meet other families and have the opportunity to meet representatives of many of the student service areas that Marymount Manhattan has to offer.”
Marymount Manhattan College is an urban, independent, liberal arts college. The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse population by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth and by providing opportunities for career development.
