(New York, NY) – Marymount Manhattan’s Office of Student Development and Activities is welcoming new students to the College and preparing them for the new semester. New MMC students are required to attend Orientation from Monday, August 31 through Friday, September 4.

This year’s theme is “Launch into MMC,” which celebrates new beginnings and opportunities for students.

“We expect more than 600 students to attend orientation this year, which includes transfer students,” said Rosemary Ampuero, M.A., assistant dean/director of Student Development and Activities. “Last year, we had a record number of students at orientation mainly due to the very large incoming class. The college surpassed our goal by at least 100 new students so orientation attendance was the highest it’s ever been.”

Ampuero said all new students should attend orientation because it helps with the transition process from high school to college or from another college to Marymount Manhattan.

“Orientation allows new students the options to make new friends, become familiar with the staff and current students and learn about the many resources,” she said. “They will know how to get around before they start classes making it easier to get used to their new surroundings.”

As MMC students prepare for the Fall semester, Ampuero offers some suggestions to students who want to take advantage of the opportunities at the College.

“Come with an open mind and get involved in your new community,” she said. “MMC has so much to offer but the individual student needs to take the first step to get involved in something outside of the classroom. Whether it’s attending an event, joining an organization or volunteering their time in community service, students have many opportunities to make strong and lasting connections at MMC.”
