The Department of Dance at Marymount Manhattan College organizes the annual lecture series Dialogues in Dance. “From Orientalism to Asian American” will feature Yutian Wong, Ph.D., assistant professor at San Francisco State University on October 20. Discussing the life and career of the Japanese dancer and choreographer Michio Ito, Wong re-examines U.S. modern dance history through an Asian Americanist lens. Ito worked and lived in the United States for over 30 years before he was investigated by the F.B.I. and interned along with 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry during World War II.
