MMC’s Division of Accounting and Business Management presents “Navigating The New Mainstream” with Guy Garcia, a lecture on how the multicultural consumer is transforming American business. Garcia is an award-winning speaker, consultant, author and multimedia entrepreneur. His book, The New Mainstream: How the Multicultural Consumer is Transforming American Business, is both a wake-up call and road map to the new multicultural reality in America. The New Mainstream was chosen by Soundview Executive Business Book Series as one of the best business books of 2004. His latest book, The Decline of Men: How the American Male is Getting Axed, Giving Up and Flipping Off His Future, was described by Publisher’s Weekly as “an astute and well-researched meditation on how men might reclaim their identity and place in modern America and why such a transformation is important to future generations of both men and women.”

Garcia is the founder and CEO of MentaMetrix, Inc., a multicultural research and marketing firm based in New York City. As a consultant and lecturer, Garcia has worked with major corporations and organizations, including Kraft Foods, Clorox, Astra Zeneca, Bayer Healthcare, McKinsey & Co., Nisson Motors, 20th Century Fox Studios, The National Ski Areas Association, The National Association of Diversity Suppliers, The National Association of Television Production Executives (NATPE), The Omnicom Group, Turner Broadcasting, The Association of Hispanic Advertisers (AHA), Time Warner Cable, Time Inc., People en Espanol, and The Council on Foreign Relations.

Garcia has served as a consultant to the Warner Bros. Hispanic Entertainment Marketing Project (HEMP) and the Time Warner Research Council. He is the Chief Consultant for Latin Music USA, a four-hour documentary on Latin music and culture produced by WGBH/PBS and the BBC, that aired in October 2009. He is currently working on a new book about the evolution of multicultural consumer markets.

Garcia was a co-founder and the editor of Total New York.com, one of the first urban Web sites to appear on the Internet. As an executive at America Online, he worked on the development of AOL International, AOL Broadband, and launched the first iteration of AOL Latino, a bilingual site for AOL’s two million Latino subscribers. A former Time magazine staff writer and frequent contributor to The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and other publications, Garcia has appeared on ABC, Univision, NPR, CNBC, CNN Money and PBS. A three-time National Magazine Awards judge, he is an Edward Albee Fellow and a member of PEN.
