The "Half the World Deserves a Whole Voice: The Pandemic of Violence against Women" panelists will discuss major advocacy initiatives to end the violence against women. Violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights violations in the world. One of every three women in the world has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime. The devastating effects of violence against women have social, health and economic consequences that reach beyond the individual to destroy families, fracture communities, and stall development. Speakers include Radhika Balakrishnan, the Executive Director of the Center for Women's Global Leadership (CWGL); Urjasi Rudra, Campaign Manager of UNIFEM's "Say No to Violence against Women"; and Keely Swan, Coordinator of CWGL's 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence.
