Honoring Geraldine Ferraro '56
 |
(New York, NY) This year marks the twentieth anniversary of Marymount Manhattan College alumna (Class of 1956) Geraldine A. Ferraro becoming the first woman nominated by a major political party as its candidate for Vice President of the United States. Ms. Ferraro has generously donated her political papers to Marymount Manhattan College, which has mounted a display of items from the 1984 campaign. The archives are on the second floor of the Thomas J. Shanahan Library located in the College's Nugent Building. On Wednesday, October 13th, a gathering of Ms. Ferraro's classmates from the class of 1956, faculty, staff, students and local elected officials came together in the College's Regina Peruggi Room to celebrate the anniversary of the historic campaign. A highlight of the evening was the presentation by President Shaver of a leatherbound index of her archives to Ms. Ferraro. During her remarks, Ms. Ferraro fondly remembered her time at Marymount Manhattan and stressed how the education she received set her on the path to success.
