The theatre arts department presents 20th-century New York City: Interdisciplinary Theatre Production Workshop Dialogues, a four-part dialogue series that gathers together faculty and students to explore MMC’s spring productions, the musical Bright Lights, Big City and John Guare’s The House of Blue Leaves. On February 9, the series features “Exploring the Rock Musical Genre.” Paul Scott Goodman, who wrote the book, music, and lyrics for the musical Bright Lights, Big City based on the novel by Jay McInerney, and Elizabeth Wollman, assistant professor of music at Baruch College and author of The Theater Will Rock: A History of the Rock Musical from Hair to Hedwig (University of Michigan Press, 2006), lead a conversation about the rock musical as a theatrical genre. The event is free, first-come and first-seated, and open to the public.
