Trustee and Alumna Gloria Bohan Honored as ASTA’s Travel Agent of the Year

(Fairfax, Va.) Gloria Bohan ('63), President, CEO and Founder of Omega World Travel, is this year's recipient of the American Society of Travel Agents' (ASTA) Travel Agent of the Year Award, presented this week at ASTA's 74th World Travel Congress in Hong Kong. The award specifically recognizes an active travel agent member who has made a great contribution to the travel industry and whose outstanding influence and professional activity have advanced the status of travel agents.

Ms. Bohan founded Omega World Travel in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in 1972, and has since transformed a one-person travel agency into one of the largest travel management companies in the U.S. with sales in excess of $1 billion, more than 1,000 employees and 200 wholly-owned offices worldwide.

"I wish to thank ASTA for this award which I share with my many employees who have helped to make it possible. It has been a privilege to be part of the travel industry and to have been able to build a business. Developing a staff and keeping customers happy is a great thrill for me. I also thank my very creative husband, Daniel, who is a great inspiration for many and who is my biggest cheerleader," said Gloria Bohan.

Ms. Bohan has been recognized many times over for her business achievements. Most recently she received a "2004 Businesswoman of the Year" award from Office Depot. In 2003 she was presented an Entrepreneurial Visionary Award from the Women's Business Center in recognition of outstanding women of extraordinary accomplishments, and also Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from Marymount Manhattan College, her Alma Mater, for her vision of service to the public, her skills in organizing a successful enterprise, her commitment to the advancement of women and her fidelity to the values and ideals of liberal education.
