Marymount Manhattan students will be participating in the Undergraduate Research Symposium in the Biological and Chemical Sciences on April 17 at William Paterson University (WPUNJ) in Wayne, N.J. MMC’s chapter of the Undergraduate Affiliate Network of the American Society for Chemistry and Molecular Biology is co-sponsoring the event for the third consecutive year.

The symposium is an exchange of ideas by science students from colleges and universities in the mid-Atlantic area. At the event, students will present findings in biochemistry, physiology, cell and molecular biology, genetics, ecology and evolution, nanochemistry, and general and material chemistry at poster sessions throughout the day. A panel of mentors will issue awards to the top two presenters in each category. The event will also feature a keynote address by Dr. Narayan S. Hosmane, a distinguished research professor from Northern Illinois University, entitled “Nanotechnology-Driven Cancer Therapy.”

Laura Anthony ’12, Zachary Barbati ’10, Jasmina Bogdanovic ’11, Olympia Gaglioti ’12, Christina Galifianakis ’11, Laura Herren ’12 and Raymond Romano ’12 will present research at the symposium. The students will attend with Associate Professor of Biology Ann Aguanno, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Chemistry Benedetta Sampoli-Benitez, Ph.D., and Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Environmental Science Alessandra Leri, Ph.D.

Other event sponsors include the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Undergraduate Affiliate Network of WPUNJ.
