Feb. 24: Q&A and Book Signing Features Moustafa Bayoumi

February 24, 2011
Date: Thursday, February 24
Time: 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Location: MMC, Regina Peruggi Room
Contact: Millie Burns at mburns@mmm.edu

Assistant Professor of Art Millie Burns, M.F.A., and the Thomas J. Shanahan Library invite you to an evening with Moustafa Bayoumi. An award-winning writer and a Brooklyn College, City University of New York associate professor of English, Moustafa Bayoumi will share his views on the state of contemporary Arab America and how the current climate affects Muslim American life today. A Q&A and a book signing will follow the discussion. Book titles available include Midnight on the Mavi Marmara: The Attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla and How It Changed the Course of the Israeli/Palestine Conflict, The Edward Said Reader, and How Does It Feel to Be a Problem?: Being Young and Arab in America. The event is free with limited seating and requires an RSVP to mburns@mmm.edu.

This event is supported by a grant from The Carnegie Corporation of New York, awarded to Burns to conduct follow up activities after a January 2010 State Department funded trip to Jordan. The topic of the 16-day seminar involved teaching about Islam and the Middle East. The Thomas J. Shanahan Library and its Media Center support a variety of scholarly endeavors. Special thanks to Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts John Basil, M.F.A., and Associate Professor of International Studies Ghassan Shabaneh, Ph.D., for their collaborative work on this event.
