Sept. 17: Discover Central Park's West Side with the MMC Alumni Association
September 17, 2011
Date: Saturday, September 17 Time: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Location: Central Park West Cost: $30 for tour and lunch Registration Information: This event is sold out.
Central Park is one of the urban wonders of the world, a green oasis in the great concrete, high-rise landscape of New York City. It is so naturally part of the Manhattan environment that many people may not realize it is entirely manmade. Discover the Park's history, ecology and design on a walking tour with Marymount Manhattan Alumni Association and the Central Park Conservancy. The West Side Stories tour, led by a CPC guide, will last about one to one and a half hours. Walk through a scenic area on the western edge of the Park, much of which is off the beaten track for most visitors, but well known to Upper West Side residents.
After the tour, we will have lunch at Artie’s Delicatessen. The last project of legendary restaurateur Artie Cutler (of Carmine's, Ollie's, Virgil’s and Jake's) was to build a great 1930s New York delicatessen. The restaurant opened October 1999 as a tribute to Artie and heralds the comeback of a heritage almost lost. For more information, visit www.arties83rd.com.
