Each year, New York Cares brings 8,000 caring volunteers to over 100 New York City public schools for the city's largest day of volunteer service. Team Marymount Manhattan College will be volunteering at PS 11 Q – Kathryn Phelan in Woodside (Queens) on New York Cares Day. PS 11 Q’s mission is to provide all students with a world-class education. This culturally diverse, child-centered school promotes a safe, nurturing and exciting learning environment for all. The school has tested so well in the past that it’s one of the few NYC schools that isn’t mandated to follow a specific curriculum. This large school serves approximately 1,200 students from grades K – 6. On New York Cares Day, volunteers will continue to brighten up the school inside and out by repainting the rail fence surrounding the building, planting bulbs, and painting murals to brighten the stairwells used by the youngest students at the school. For additional information about this day of volunteer service please visit www.NewYorkCaresDay.org.
