The Hewitt Gallery of Art showcases a mixture of historical and modern images of veiled women from across the globe in Veils. These photographs highlight differing depictions (and perceptions) of veiled women from the 19th century to the present. The women depicted in the photographs are Christian, Jewish and Muslim and challenge the notion that only Muslim women wear the veil. The photographs are intended to promote dialogue and understanding and examine the reasons women use the veil.
