Marymount Manhattan Presents 63rd Commencement

New York, N.Y.—On May 18, 2012, 363 graduates participated in Marymount Manhattan College’s 63rd Commencement Exercises at the New York City Center.

Commencement featured the traditional procession of faculty, administrators and graduates. The ceremony was led by David Podell, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty. Remarks were presented by President Judson R. Shaver Ph.D., and Chairman of the Board of Trustees James E. Buckman. Chaplain Christine Vinciguerra, Ph.D., delivered the invocation and Rabbi Philip Hiat presented the benediction.

Rocco Landesman, Ph.D., the tenth chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), delivered the 2012 Commencement Speech. Valedictorian Jessica Summers ’12, communication arts major, and senior class speaker Robert Torres ’12, theatre arts major, addressed their classmates during the ceremony. Theatre arts major Emmy Raver-Lampman ’12 performed “I Was Here.”

Marymount Manhattan College presented an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters to human rights advocate Sheila Barry Tacon ’56, an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters to photojournalist and humanitarian Ruth Gruber, Ph.D., and an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters to devoted faculty and staff member Peter H. Baker.
