MMC Theatre Production Workshop presents The Arsonists by Max Frisch, adapted by Alistair Beaton. Also known as The Firebugs, this satire explores issues of Nazism and fascism. Set in a town that has been recently plagued by arson, the two “firebugs/arsonists” talk their way into Biederman’s home, where they settle in his attic and set in motion their plan to destroy his house. Written in 1953, shortly after WWII, the play questions how “normal” citizens can be taken in by evil and remain, in many ways, powerless to stop it. Our production will amplify the contemporary relevance of Frisch’s vision, compounded by our easy access to communication and often false ideas about personal connections. The Arsonists is performed by students in the Theatre Arts programs of the College with direction by Ellen Orenstein, scenic design by Rob Dutiel, lighting design by Devon Brown, projection design by Rocco DiSanti, sound design by Toby Algya, costume design by Kate Mincer, voice and text coaching by Barbara Adrian, and stage management by Chris Steckel.
