HEWITT GALLERY OF ART: "Eyes on Stamos" Exhibit
March 31, 2005
(Right) The Alter #1 oil on masonite 36" x 48" by Theodore Stamos
Theodoros Stamos (1922-1997) was one of the original Abstract Expressionists working in New York City in the 1940s and 50s. His interest in nature, Surrealism, primitive arts and Asian Mysticism helped him to synthesize a non-representational language, which he emphasized with subtle gradations of color and form.
This exhibit will run from March 7 through March 31, 2005. The Gallery is open from 9am through 9pm Mon. through Sun., except on March 25-27, 2005 when it will be closed.
Location: Hewitt Gallery of Art Marymount Manhattan College Main Building, First Floor
This exhibit coincides with the publication of Eyes on Stamos: A Sister's Memoirs a Brother's Wishes, by the artist's sister, Georgianna Savas. She will host a book signing at the College on March 16, 2005 from 1 to 3pm.
