MMC Students Lobby in Albany
 |
(New York, NY) On Tuesday, February 8th, a group of Marymount Manhattan students and administrators traveled by bus to Albany for Student Lobby Day. The event was organized by the Commission on Independent Colleges & Universities and brought together students from 50 schools across the state who gathered for one common purpose. The goal of the day was to successfully lobby the state government to fully restore funding in the state budget for various state financial aid programs such as TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) and HEOP (Higher Education Opportunity Program). In addition to the day's activities, the Marymount Manhattan group had the opportunity to have personal meetings with legislators from the State Assembly and State Senate. Among those who gave generously of their time to MMC were Assemblyman Jonathan Bing (Manhattan), State Senator Liz Krueger (Manhattan), Assemblyman Mark Weprin (Queens), State Senator John Flanagan (Long Island) and Assemblywoman Maureen O'Connell (Long Island).
