THEATRE: The Inspector General
October 26, 2005
MMC Theatre Production Workshop presents The Inspector General by Nikolay Gogol; translated by Milton Ehre and Fruma Gottschalk. Set in a small town in Russia where everyone is on the take, the play's plot revolves around the age-old device of mistaken identity. A ridiculous and self-important fop is mistaken for an inspector sent by the government to spy on the town. Not only does Gogol's satire skewer mankind, implicating us all in its hilarious vision of human amorality, but it also dismantles some of the traditional conventions of classical comedy—with its unified plot, flat characters, and unresolved romantic narrative. This production is performed by students in the Theatre Arts programs of the College with direction by Brian Rhinehart, scenic design by Robert Dutiel, costume design by Gail Cooper Hecht, lighting design by Heatherlyn Egan, and music direction & original music by Charlie Coniglio. Opening night reception will follow the performance on Wednesday, October 26th.
