MMC to Provide Assistance for College Students Displaced by Hurricane Katrina
 |
(New York, NY) Marymount Manhattan College will offer assistance in a number of ways to the community affected by last week's tragic developments on the Gulf Coast.
The MMC Office of Admissions is currently working to provide provisional admission to college students who are enrolled at Gulf Coast schools and displaced by this national tragedy. It is the goal of Marymount Manhattan to make sure that these students' educational experience is not interrupted, and that they are able to return without difficulty to their own college communities as soon as it is possible. Though space is always limited, the College is also working to provide students in need with temporary housing in MMC residence halls. Students interested in learning more about temporarily continuing their studies at MMC can contact our Office of Admissions (212-517-0430; admissions@mmm.edu).
MMC is also developing a number of ways to provide relief to the larger Gulf Coast community, as well as our own students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends who have been affected by this tragedy. Marymount Manhattan will lead a campaign to raise funds for the hurricane relief effort. This will be an opportunity for the entire MMC community to come together in the name of a common cause and unprecedented need, and all members of the College community are welcome to participate. More details on this fundraising effort will be made available as they are established.
The College is also committed to assisting our own students who have been personally affected in any way by the disaster. Staff in our Campus Ministry and Counseling Services Offices (located in Student Affairs: 212-774-0750; Third Floor, Main Building) are available to assist any students or other members of the College community as they struggle with this difficult time.
Finally, the MMC Office of Alumni Relations is in the process of reaching out to Marymount Manhattan Alumni residing in the Gulf Coast area. We will be ready to respond to any needs that they might have as they work to rebuild their lives following Hurricane Katrina. If you are aware of any alumni who have been affected by the catastrophe, please contact Claire Sullivan, Director of Alumni Relations (212-517-0458; csullivan@mmm.edu).
If any member of the Marymount Manhattan community is interested in contributing to the relief fund, please contact Margarget Minson, Vice President for Institutional Advancement (212-517-0450; mminson@mmm.edu).
