MMC Community to Raise Funds for Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort
 |
(New York, NY) Students, faculty and staff of Marymount Manhattan College will unite to raise funds for the relief effort following Hurricane Katrina's devastation on the Gulf Coast.
A financial donation drive will begin on Thursday, September 15 and continue through Wednesday, September 28. To kick off the fundraising effort, the College has announced that it will match at least the first $1000 raised by the College Community. All proceeds will be donated to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), which is providing direct support to the children and families in the Gulf States who have survived Hurricane Katrina.
"This fundraising effort is an opportunity for the entire Marymount Manhattan community to unite behind an unprecedented need," said Margaret Minson, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Chair of the MMC Katrina Relief Fund Committee. "MMC is a place filled with people eager to offer assistance, and we know that students, faculty and staff will give their enthusiastic support to the communities affected by Katrina."
Daily email updates will be sent to the MMC Community over the next two weeks, outlining the total amount raised thus far as well as participation rates of students, faculty, staff and the Continuing Education community. On Wednesday, September 28 at 1:00 PM, all are invited to an event in the Regina Peruggi Room, where the Katrina Relief Fund Committee will announce how much was raised as well as which group within the College Community saw the highest rate of participation in the relief effort.
