MMC Raises Over $6,000 for Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort

(New York, NY) Students, faculty and staff of Marymount Manhattan College gathered in the Regina Peruggi Room today to hear that the MMC Community raised $6,131.26 in response to Hurricane Katrina's devastation on the Gulf Coast.

The financial donation drive began on Thursday, September 15 and continued through today. Several administrative offices within the College (Administration and Finance, Admissions, Continuing Education, Institutional Advancement and the President's Office) united to match the first $1500 raised by the College Community.

All proceeds will be donated to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), which is providing direct support to the children and families in the Gulf States who have survived Hurricane Katrina.

"We were thrilled to see the entire Marymount Manhattan community uniting behind a common cause that has clearly had a profound effect on all of us," said Margaret Minson, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Chair of the MMC Katrina Relief Fund Committee. "Together, students, faculty, staff, alumni and parents were able to raise a substantial amount of money for the Gulf States."

Student groups will continue raising funds and supplies for the victims of the Hurricane throughout the semester. To find out more, please contact Rosemary Ampuero, Director of Student Activities (rampuero@mmm.edu).
