ART: Intellectual Rigor
October 11, 2006
(Right) This 22 x 30 oil pastel on paper is by artist Li Trincere.
Reductive, concept-based work is generally characterized by its use of plainspoken materials, monochromatic or limited color, geometry and pattern, repetition, and precise craftsmanship. The artists in this exhibit are interested in exploring the mechanism of perception, the individual artistic energy as it came in with the first avant-garde of classic modernity, and how little material and information can be used to construct a specific and engaging perceptual experience.
Exhibition dates: September 11 – October 11 Opening reception: Thursday, September 14, 6 – 8 p.m., Hewitt Gallery of Art Information: (212) 517-0692
