Anti-Americanism: An Old-Europe Perspective

Professor David Wisner will present research done by himself and colleagues on the pervasive anti-Americanism that has existed in Greece since the 1970s. The research was conducted at the behest of the United States Embassy in Athens and the Consulate General in Thessaloniki, and the findings were reviewed in the context of the 2002 Pew global attitudes survey on anti-Americanism worldwide.

David Wisner is professor and chair of the Division of Humanities and Social Science and director of the Michael S. Dukakis Chair in Public Policy and Service at the American College of Thessaloniki.
Since moving to Greece in the mid-1990s he has been particularly active in such issues as civic education, public policy, and United States involvement in Southeast Europe. He has participated in events and projects organized by the World Bank, the Bertelsmann Foundation, the Stability Pact, the German Marshall Fund, the United States Embassy in Athens and the United States Consulate General in Thessaloniki.
Dr. Wisner appears regularly on Greek radio and television to discuss United States and international politics, and writes occasional political commentary for a Greek newspaper. In his capacity as Director of the Dukakis Chair he has also organized innumerable lectures, round tables, and workshops on national, regional, and international public policy issues.
Dr. Wisner is visiting Marymount Manhattan as part of a faculty exchange with the American College of Thessaloniki, funded by the Niarchos Foundation.
