MMC Receives $100,000 Grant from Alden Trust

(New York, NY) Marymount Manhattan College has received a grant of $100,000 from the George I. Alden Trust. As specified by the Trust, the funds will go toward creating a technology-enhanced classroom in the College's Main Building on 71st Street, as well as outfitting the Main Building with wireless capability.

"This contribution from the Alden Trust will significantly enhance the technological resources available to the College community," said Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D., president of Marymount Manhattan College. "I offer my sincere thanks to all of the individuals who have worked to articulate the need for this project and to make it a reality."

In 2005 Marymount Manhattan completed the construction of six technology-enhanced classrooms on the fourth floor of the Nugent Building, thanks in large part to a $250,000 grant from the Booth Ferris Foundation. The project also included outfitting the entire Nugent Building with wireless access. These "smart classrooms" have been in use since the fall of 2005, and the response from students and faculty has been overwhelmingly positive.

The effort to secure the Alden Trust gift was taken on collaboratively by the Business Office, the Information Technology Department, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of Institutional Advancement. Marymount Manhattan's faculty will be working in the coming weeks to determine where in the Main Building this latest smart classroom will be located.

The Trust has a longstanding history of contributions to MMC, including the endowment of the George I. Alden Trust Scholarship, which offers financial support to MMC students who demonstrate academic merit and financial need.
