MMC Awarded Grant for Service-Learning Project
 |
(New York, NY) Marymount Manhattan has received a three-year grant from the Pennsylvania/New York Campus Compact Consortium to expand service-learning opportunities within the College. The grant was awarded to a collaborative team of the City College of New York (lead institution), New York University and MMC. Project funding for the Campus Compact grant is provided in part by the Corporation for National and Community Service through the Learn & Serve America Higher Education Initiative.
The Campus Compact grant will support the College’s participation in a New York metropolitan area regional network for service-learning. As part of this network, MMC students will be able to participate in service-learning courses, while obtaining hands-on experience with the East Harlem Tutorial Program, a 50-year-old community-based organization providing after-school services to hundreds of children and youths in the New York area. The grant will also provide stipends for MMC faculty engaged in service-learning, and participating faculty will have the opportunity to exchange best practices with others in the service-learning network.
Marymount Manhattan is thrilled to be a part of this collaborative effort to bolster civic engagement among our students and to encourage the academic achievement of youth across New York City.
