MMC Mourns Professor Gurcharan Singh
 |
(New York, NY) The Marymount Manhattan community was saddened by the death of Professor Gurcharan Singh over the weekend. Professor Singh was a devoted member of the MMC community for over 25 years, having helped to establish the International Studies program in the early 1980s. As a specialist in peacekeeping and international cooperation, he taught a wide range of courses on comparative politics and international relations.
While Professor Singh retired as a full-time professor in the late 1990s, he continued to teach one course per semester at MMC. Fully committed to the learning experience of his students, he embodied an important part of the Marymount Manhattan mission: giving personal attention to the individual student.
Professor Singh’s loss will be felt by many members of the Marymount Manhattan family, including faculty, staff, current students, and graduates of the past 25 years. The thoughts and prayers of the College community are with his wife, Shah, son, Surinder, and daughter, Rajinder, during this difficult time.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of our colleague, teacher and friend, Dr. Gurcharan Singh, will be held on May 7, 2007 at 5:30 pm in the Regina Peruggi Room. A reception will follow the service. All members of the College community, including alumni, are invited to attend.
