Dedication of the Hewitt Gallery Of Art

(New York, NY) Among New York's prominent exhibition spaces for new and innovative art, the MMC Gallery at Marymount Manhattan College (MMC) has been named the Hewitt Gallery of Art. The naming was announced in May by Marymount Manhattan President, Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D. The gallery, which has provided numerous emerging artists with gallery space to showcase their work, is being named in honor of alumna and trustee, Marsha A. Hewitt and her husband Carl H. Hewitt (pictured at right with President Shaver) who donated $250,000 to the College.
"We are extremely grateful to Marsha and Carl for their generosity," said President Shaver. "The art gallery at Marymount Manhattan is one of the strengths upon which the College has built a national reputation in the performing and visual arts. The Hewitt Gallery of Art will continue to be a resource for our students and neighbors who love art."
"I came to appreciate art while a student at Marymount Manhattan. The College is a very special place and I am thrilled to be able to support MMC and its students in this way," said Marsha Hewitt.
A special gala exhibit to officially open the Hewitt Gallery of Art at Marymount Manhattan College will take place on Thursday, November 18th at 6:00pm. The exhibit, entitled "Habitats for Humans" includes staged navigations through (urban) spaces as sites of the production of culture and sources of our experience. Where we live and work is dramatically reflected in the featured works from a sterile corporate boardroom to a kitschy residential dwelling.
