NY State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer To Headline MMC Commencement

(New York, NY) New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer will address Marymount Manhattan College graduates and their families at the College's 55th Commencement Ceremonies on Friday, May 21st at 3:00pm. Attorney General Spitzer's remarks will center on the topics of accountability and ethics and he will receive an honorary Doctorate of Law degree. "During his time as Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer has worked passionately on initiatives that benefit both New York State and the country as a whole. In particular, his Wall Street conflict of interest investigations have prompted significant national reform," said Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D., President of Marymount Manhattan College. "We are thrilled that Attorney General Spitzer will be addressing the Marymount Manhattan community. I am confident that his message will resonate with graduates, parents and invited guests."
Also addressing Marymount Manhattan College's graduates will be David Levering Lewis, recipient of two Pulitzer Prizes for his two-volume biography of W.E.B. DuBois and Martha Nussbaum, Ph.D., the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law & Ethics at the University of Chicago. Mr. Lewis and Dr. Nussbaum will both receive honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees.
Marymount Manhattan College will grant approximately 430 Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees at the ceremony, which will take place at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. At the College's baccalaureate ceremony to be held earlier in the day, co-valedictorian, Lindsay Borden will perform a special benediction. Ms. Borden, a returning student at Marymount Manhattan, is an ordained minister at the First Presbyterian Church in New York City and plans to pursue a Master of Divinity degree after graduation.
