In this musical adaptation of Arthur Schnitzler’s iconic play, La Ronde (1897), we encounter the Whore, the Soldier, the Nurse, the College Boy, the Young Wife, the Husband, the Young Thing, the Writer, the Actress and the Senator, who pair up in ten different variations seeking sexual pleasure, with one character from each scene moving on to the next, and what is stolen and what is caught is central to the rhythm and intent of this round dance. LaChiusa’s re-telling is set in America (New Orleans, Biloxi, Boston, Manhattan, Hollywood and Washington, D.C.); his characters appear in vignettes that are each set in a different decade and musical style of the 20th century, creating a roundelay of obsession, desire and despair. This production is performed by students in the Theatre Arts programs of the College with direction by Kevin Connell, scenic design by Robert Monaco, costume design by Katie Irish, lighting design by Ray Recht, and music direction by Darren Cohen.
