2008 President’s Medal Gala to Honor Best-Selling Author Dr. Jana Klauer

(New York, NY) On May 1, the 2008 President’s Medal Gala Benefit: Celebrating the Mind, Body and Spirit, will honor Jana Klauer, M.D, a physician specializing in nutrition, exercise and weight management. Dr. Klauer further promotes vitality and wellbeing of others as an author, a lecturer for global audiences and a health resource for the media.

Based out of her Park Avenue office in New York City, Dr. Jana Klauer is a leading authority on nutrition, metabolism, exercise and fat regulation. She attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where she completed an internship in internal medicine and her residency in rehabilitation medicine. Dr. Klauer also holds a master’s degree in clinical nutrition from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. She was a Research Fellow at the New York Obesity Research Center of St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital. Dr. Klauer was the national director of nutrition for the Equinox health clubs and served on the Equinox medical board of directors.

Dr. Klauer’s upcoming book, The Park Avenue Nutritionist’s Plan: The No-Fail Prescription for Energy, Vitality & Weight Loss!, will be released in April 2008.

Dr. Klauer wrote The New York Times bestseller, How the Rich Get Thin: Park Avenue’s Top Diet Doctor Reveals the Secrets to Losing Weight and Feeling Great. Her book advises readers about maintaining a healthy lifestyle on a daily basis, and includes healthy meal plans and exercise advice. Klauer also created “Everyday Nutrition,” a meal replacement shake that promotes weight loss.

Dr. Klauer was profiled in a full-length Newsweek article and in The New York Times Magazine. As a nutrition expert, she is frequently quoted in a broad range of publications including Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, New York Magazine, Town and Country, Runner’s World, Allure, Marie Claire, Men’s Health and others. She has been a featured guest on “Good Morning America,” CNN, CNBC (“The Tyler Mathisen Show”) and “The Martha Stewart Show.” She is frequently featured in local and national television and radio news for health and nutrition topics.

Established in 1984, the President’s Medal recognizes outstanding individuals who have distinguished themselves through service to their professions and communities. The 2008 Gala Benefit, Celebrating the Mind, Body and Spirit, will take place on Thursday, May 1 at the Rainbow Room. Proceeds from the President’s Medal Dinner will help Marymount Manhattan College continue to provide a high quality liberal arts education as an affordable option for a diverse body of students through scholarship opportunities.
