The beauty of the French language has captured the fascination of other cultures and maintained a significant role throughout the ages. At MMC, we recognize that French is an increasingly influential vehicle for diplomacy. It is one of the five official languages of the United Nations, and is designated as the official or co-official language of 29 countries in Europe, Africa, and the Americas. We offer you a challenging and exciting exploration of the French language and culture.

Special Features
MMC's French program assists you in preparing for the Chamber of Commerce of Paris examinations for the Certificat Pratique and the Diplome Superieur. This certification is recognized throughout the French business community as an attainment of French language expertise. Since 1980, MMC has been established as a Center of Examination for these certificates.

Minors
Students can minor in French studies (18 cr.) The interdisciplinary program draws upon fields of study in the humanities and social sciences. They will be able to take courses in the language itself and in areas dealing with Contemporary France, French and Francophone literature and film, and French popular culture.

Internship Opportunities
Linguist, assistant teacher, translator, international business apprentice and many more.

Graduate and Career Opportunities:
Proficiency in French allows you options for positions in international business, government, schools, museums, galleries, and international development and humanitarian projects.

Curriculum Highlights
To meet our students' needs, the French department offers a variety of courses which provide:

1) Basic language instruction to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiencies;
2) A study of cultural developments in France and the Francophone world;
3) An understanding of literature, music, film and the arts in historical and contemporary contexts;
4) Global awareness as a member of a multilingual multicultural community at home and abroad; 5) Opportunities to study or volunteer in a French-speaking country.

Note: Some courses will be taught in translation as well.
