By studying art in museums and galleries, in conjunction with research projects, students working toward a BA in Art History receive a thorough foundation in the survey of art, as well as Renaissance, Baroque, Modern and Contemporary Art. Four more electives are from both Western and non-Western traditions. Three studio courses help combine the theory with the practice of art. The minor provides competency in a field of interest beyond your major and prepares you for entry into the marketplace or specialized graduate study. Click here for the Art History Student Handbook.
MMC also offers a BA in Art History through the Art major.

Hewitt Gallery of Art
The Hewitt Gallery of Art, located in the main esplanade and adjacent black and white galleries in the Main and Nugent Buildings, is a highly recognized showcase gallery that offers both well-known and emerging artists an opportunity for exposure within the art world and the MMC community. Works reflecting a wide range of concerns, styles and media, such as painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, video, and multi-media installations, are exhibited on a monthly basis throughout the year.
The Hewitt Gallery is visited each year by hundreds of artists, critics, collectors, and curators. The visibility of innovative and challenging works of art throughout the College plays an important role in expanding the creative horizons of MMC students.
In addition, the Gallery provides opportunities for students to gain first-hand experience in curating and organizing shows in conjunction with the Gallery Director through the Arts Management program. Students' work is also displayed in smaller galleries throughout the College.
