The Counseling Center at Marymount Manhattan College is located in the 3rd Floor of the Main Building and is open Monday to Friday. The center offers free, confidential, short-term individual counseling to all members of the Marymount Community. Referrals to outside therapists, programs and agencies are also provided when necessary. Additionally, a part-time psychiatrist is available for evaluations and medication management.

Common Reasons for Students to Seek Counseling:

  • Depression (e.g. depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt, poor concentration, increased or decreased sleep and/or appetite, low energy, suicidal thoughts).
  • Anxiety (e.g. excessive worrying, restlessness, inability to concentrate, irritability, muscle tension, disturbed sleep, panic attacks).
  • Alcohol and Drug Abuse
  • Eating Disorders
  • History of Abuse (Emotional, Physical, and/or Sexual)
  • Loss and Bereavement
  • Trauma
  • Poor Academic Performance
  • Family Problems
  • Medical Illness
  • Issues Regarding Sexuality
  • Financial and Legal Difficulties
  • Low Self-Esteem
