ZACH HARRELL - "SPEND IT OR LOSE IT" - NEW FUNDING POLICY
In an effort to foster club growth and activities SGA will now be monitoring club spending more carefully. “Clubs ask for money and then they don’t spend it, which leaves us with money at the end of the year,” comments SGA Treasurer Zach Harrell. This move is aimed at rewarding responsible and enthusiastic clubs and curbing misalocation of funds. Harrell states, “What we don’t want to see happen, is SGA allocating money for a club that doesn’t use it, tying up the funds, and not make them available for the clubs that do need the money. So if you don’t spend the money that was given to you, you won’t get more the following semester.”

“...We want to get as much money out there to the clubs that need it....”

This is all part, of course of a larger restructuring plan SGA is taking on to address club funding. Harell comments, “We want to get as much money out there to the clubs that need it.” Also being initiated with the new policy is a seperate funding pool that will encourage clubs to come together to plan events. “This new system will help create a sense of community and cooperation among the clubs,” states Harrell. Simply put if two or more clubs come together to execute an activity, they will be able to ask for more funding than their allocated budget. “When clubs work together they spread the scope of their project to a larger net of students, and their chances of success increase,” notes Harrell.

“When clubs work together they spread the scope of their project to a larger net of students, and their chances of success increase,”

“I am available to help clubs work through this new budgeting system,” says Zach, “club officers can reach me during my regular office hours or email me... I suspect we’ll have a very good year, I’ve already processed several fund request from various clubs and it looks like were off on the right foot.”
