Graduation Check List
Step 1 of 9: Apply for Graduation by completing the Application for Graduation
- To apply for graduation, you must complete the Application for
Graduation. You will indicate on this form how you would like
your name spelled on printed graduation lists and on your diploma.
Please submit this in person to the Center for Student Services.
- Inclusion in email lists regarding graduation exercises
and senior events can only be ensured if students successfully complete
the Application
for Graduation. Information emailed to students includes
ordering graduation attire, class ring sales, yearbook portrait dates,
graduation packet pick-up dates, applications for awards, and 100
Nights Celebration.
- To receive your diploma, make sure your address is updated
in MMConnect.
Step 2 of 9: Receive Graduation Audit Email and Check Outstanding Course
Requirements
It is your responsibility to complete the 120 credits required for your degree prior to graduation. Students no longer need to meet in person with the Associate Registrar to review degree requirements. A letter will be sent to your MMC email account from Ruth Falconer, Associate Registrar, after you have submitted your Application for Graduation. This graduation audit letter will inform you of your graduation status and any outstanding course requirements.
The graduation audit letter will also inform you of your degree date. If you have a September 2012, February 2013 or June 2013 degree date, you are automatically eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremony in May 2013.
Note for
Students with a September 2013 Degree Date: If you plan to graduate after taking some summer courses (September 2013 degree date), you might be eligible to participate in the May 2013 graduation ceremony before starting your summer courses. Please see Graduation Participation Requirements for Students with a September Degree Date
Possible Issues Regarding Outstanding Requirements:
- Course Substitutions
If a required course is listed as an outstanding requirement and you were approved for a substitution in it's place, please contact the department or division chairperson. The appropriate chairperson must email a copy of the course substitution to rfalconer@mmm.edu in the Center for Student Services as the original copy is not in your graduation file.
- Equivalent Course at Another School
If a course is listed as an outstanding requirement, but you took the equivalent course at another institution, you should have the other institution send an official transcript to the Center for Student Services. In addition, you may also need to complete a permission form, which will require approvals from the Division Chair and Dean of Academic Advisement. Contact the Center for Student Services for more information (212-517-0500 or css@mmm.edu).
- Transfer Credit
If your transcript is already on file but you did not receive transfer credit, please contact Ms. Muli Torkornoo (ntorkornoo@mmm.edu), Director of Transfer Student Advisement, in the Office of Academic Advisement, located in lower level in the Nugent Building. She will review your course and transcript with you.
- Proficiency Exam
If an outstanding requirement was satisfied by a proficiency exam (AP/CLEP/NYU-Foreign Language), a copy of your scores may not be on file. Contact the Center for Student Services in person or by email at css@mmm.edu. If your scores are not on file, you will need to have your official scores re-sent to MMC.
- General Questions Regarding Outstanding Requirements
Discuss any general questions regarding outstanding requirements with your academic or faculty advisor. You should bring a copy of your graduation audit letter (received via email from Ruth Falconer) to the meeting so it can be reviewed with the advisor.
- Detailed/Specific Questions
If you have very specific, more detail-oriented questions regarding outstanding requirements that your faculty advisor cannot answer, please go to the Office of Academic Advisement to arrange an appointment with an Academic Advisor.
Step 3 of 9: Order Graduation Attire (late fall/early spring semester)
If you plan to participate in this May's Commencement ceremony, you must order your cap and gown online. Please go to http://www.oakhalli.com/college/marymountmanhattancollege by Monday, April 1, 2013 to place your order. There is no cost to you for your graduation attire, and it will be yours to keep. If you have any difficulty ordering your attire, please email
graduation@mmm.edu.
Step 4 of 9: Exit Counseling for Students with Federal Stafford Loans (during term
when taking last course[s]) (during term when taking last course[s])
- If you have any Stafford loans, you must complete online
exit counseling. This should be done while taking your final set of
classes, typically spring semester if you have a June graduation date
(your degree date is indicated in your graduation audit email).
- The Center for Student Services will email you
instructions on how to complete your exit counseling for student loans
during your final term.
- The Center for Student Services will place a hold on your
account if your exit counseling is not complete. The hold will prevent
you from picking up your graduation tickets and attire.
Step 5 of 9: Clear all holds on your account by April 20th
- If you have a hold on your account, you will not be allowed
to pick up your graduation packet (which includes graduation attire and
tickets) until all holds have been cleared.
- You also will not receive your diploma until your holds
have been cleared.
Step 6 of 9: Pick up your Graduation Packet on Monday or Tuesday, April 29th or 30th, 2013
more info…
- During Graduation Packet Pick-up, students will inform the
College of their plans to participate in Commencement, receive
graduation tickets, receive pre-ordered academic attire, fill out
senior surveys, update post-graduation contact information, and receive
other important graduation-related information.
- If you plan to participate in the Commencement Ceremony,
you must attend packet pick-up in person.
- The College cannot ensure that your name will be printed in
the Commencement program if you have not completed your Application for
Graduation by April 20, 2012.
Step 7 of 9: Successfully complete your final coursework
Students must complete a minimum of 120 credits (including all MMC requirements).
Step 8 of 9: Attend Graduation on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Avery Fisher Hall
Step 9 of 9: Wait Approximately 60 Days for your Diploma Sent to Your Permanent Address
Upon completion of the final semester and once grades have been processed, a final degree audit review (evaluation) will be performed. If you have any outstanding degree requirements, you will be deferred to the next graduation date. You will receive a letter (sent to the permanent address the Center for Student Services has on file for you) to notify you of your final graduation status. Your diploma will be mailed approximately 60 days after your degree date, if there are no outstanding requirements.
