Scholarships
The College is committed to maintaining its tuition at a level so that a Marymount Manhattan student's ability to learn will not be discouraged by his or her ability to meet tuition obligations. Many of the College's most talented and promising students would not be able to take advantage of the distinctive education offered at Marymount Manhattan if not for the availability of privately funded scholarships. More than 70 percent of Marymount Manhattan students rely on financial aid, which can take two forms: endowed scholarships or current use scholarships.
The Endowed Scholarship
Such a scholarship is meaningful as it will support generations of Marymount Manhattan students in need of financial assistance. In most instances, such a scholarship is named in perpetuity for the donor. These funds are managed within the College's overall endowment pool. Then, on an annual basis, a percentage of the income and appreciation earned by the fund is used to underwrite the scholarship. Endowed scholarships can be established with gifts of $25,000 or more. Such a gift can be fulfilled over a period of three to five years. The scholarship will be awarded the year after the corpus has equaled or surpassed the $25,000 minimum.
The Current Use Scholarship
This type of scholarship, which is sometimes called a tuition "grant," does not continue in perpetuity. The entire value of the gift is awarded either in a lump sum or distributed over several years. Once the fund is exhausted, the scholarship ceases to exist. Current use scholarships can be created with gifts of $5,000 or more.
