About the President
Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D. is the seventh president of Marymount Manhattan College and the first male to be honored with that position. It is his goal to make Marymount Manhattan, an institution nestled in the heart of a metropolitan city, a model for liberal arts colleges in large cities. Believing that education and diversity are the keys to success, President Shaver maintains the College's long-standing traditions to build each student's personal potential and to continue to renew the significance of a liberal arts education in today's society.

President Shaver received a degree in Religious Studies from Southern California College and earned his Masters and Doctorate in Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity at the University of Notre Dame.

President Shaver brings much academic and life experience to the Marymount Manhattan community. He served as Provost, Academic Vice President and Professor at Iona College in New Rochelle, NY and as Dean and Associate Professor of Regis University in Denver, CO. President Shaver also gained his academic expertise from Wheeling College and Seattle University. In addition to serving as president of Marymount Manhattan, Dr. Shaver continues to serve as Professor of Religious Studies.

President Shaver is a noted scholar and the recipient of several prestigious fellowships, a Danforth and Fulbright, as well as fellowships from Brown University and NEH (National Endowment for the Humanities). He was elected Teacher of the Year at Wheeling Jesuit College in 1984/85.
Well published, he has authored or co-authored a number of books and articles on religious topics spanning both the Christian and Judaic faiths. As a professor, President Shaver taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses on the literature and history of Judaism and Christianity in antiquity and taught interdisciplinary courses on Middle East and Far East topics.
