MMC Hosts 6th Annual Leadership Awards Banquet
On May 14, members of the College community gathered in the Great Hall for the 6th Annual Leadership Awards Banquet. This year's theme, "Take the Lead," focused on leadership on campus and in the community. Attendees included President Judson R. Shaver, Ph.D., David Podell, Ph.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty, Carol Jackson, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs, and Rosemary Ampuero, M.A., Assistant Dean and Director of Student Activities.
At the end of each academic year, the Office of Student Activities hosts a ceremony to honor students, organizations, programs and advisors on their accomplishments. Nominations are collected from the MMC community and winners are selected by a committee. All student leaders are encouraged to nominate themselves or their organization.
The following awards were presented during the ceremony:
Zach Harrell (Outstanding Peer Mentor); Jessica Dragonetti (Outstanding Volunteer); Alejandro Fernandez (Athlete of the Year); Jessica Ballard (Alumni Award); Gabrielle Wright (MMC Spirit Award); Carly Schneider (Outstanding New Member); Mock Trial Club (Outstanding New Organization); "It's No Mystery, It's Black History-Resident Advisors (Academic Program of the Year); Hunger Banquet-MMC Outreach and Omicron Delta Kappa (Cultural Program of the Year); Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (Community Service Program of the Year); Poetry and Open Mic Night-Residence Hall Council, MMC Outreach and Marymount Literary Society (Performing Arts Program of the Year); Love Makes a Family-Campus Activities Board (Special Interest Program of the Year).
The Unsung Hero Award was presented to Michael Hallinan. Rob Dutiel was awarded the Advisor of the Year Award. Ariel Obrien was selected as the Outstanding Student Leader and MMC's Campus Activities Board was selected as the Outstanding Student Organization.
