Poets Forum 2007

Marymount Manhattan College, in conjunction with the Academy of American Poets, hosted "Poets Forum: Aesthetic Diversity in Poetry Today" in the College's Theresa Lang Theatre at on October 20, 2007. This event was sponsored by the Academy of American Poets and the English Department at MMC. Featured guests of the event included Charles Simic, Poet Laureate of the United States, as well as other renowned poets Rita Dove, Galway Kinnell, Sharon Olds, Robert Pinsky, James Tate, and others. The poets discussed such issues as aesthetic lineage and originality, clarity and obscurity in poetry, and unlikely influences that have shaped poets' work during the events four featured panel discussions.

Poet Laureate Charles Simic has published more than sixty books, including twenty titles of his own poetry. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for The World Doesn't End: Prose Poems (1990).
