The mission of the Accounting Major is consistent with that of the College, which aims at educating
a socially and economically diverse student population by fostering intellectual
achievement with personal growth. The mission is accomplished by providing
our students the necessary skills with which to build successful careers
in business, government and not-for-profit institutions, and by providing
them a strong academic base for continuing education, including professional
development, graduate study, and lifelong learning.
Since Marymount Manhattan College
is located in the hub of the world's largest financial and industrial
complex, many of our students find unique opportunities to earn while
they learn. Whether they participate in the internships available through
the college or pursue individual employment, their career exposure enriches
their academic experience.
The accounting faculty have
solid credentials in their respective disciplines and extensive industry
background. In addition to their dedication to excellence in teaching,
our faculty contribute to professional associations, pursue research,
present papers at conferences, publish journal articles and books, and
consult for businesses and nonprofit organizations.
The accounting curriculum will prepare students to pursue careers in either
public or private accounting. Our students are able to secure jobs with
federal agencies and major accounting firms in the area. Some graduates
in accounting choose careers in other areas of business such as management,
marketing, and finance. The accounting major provides the
required background for those students planning to pursue an M.B.A., and the
accounting curriculum prepares students to sit for the Certified
Public Accounting (CPA) examination.
