Welcome to the Marymount Manhattan College Dance Department's website and thank you for browsing with us. The Dance Department at Marymount Manhattan College offers an intensive curriculum that upholds the professionalism that the dance world demands. We think of our curriculum not only in terms of developing technical and artistic skills but also of fostering interpersonal skills and career development tools necessary to be prepared for employment upon graduation. The program draws upon some of the finest faculty New York City has to offer, all having had notable professional careers within their chosen area of expertise. One of the unique components of Marymount Manhattan's dance program is its intent to foster multiple career options within the dance world, preparing the dancer for one or multiple entry points into the field. We believe that all aspects of the field are vitally important to the future of dance and that no one possibility is greater than another. The curriculum offers options for those who wish to perform, choreograph, critique, design, preserve both the dance or the body, administrate or teach. The rigorous approach to the technical training is never compromised no matter the career direction of the student, as the intangible skills acquired in the technique class, such as discipline, self-confidence and self-motivation, are vitally important to a career in any field. The richness of our dance program is enhanced by the strong liberal arts, non-studio component of the College. We fully embrace the ideology of expanding the mind to make the dance professional a better instrument for creativity. This allows not only for a broad perspective from which to draw upon in one's chosen area of expertise, but also for the expansion of career possibilities over a lifetime of dance.
